The natural riches of Cass County seem like they never end. In a single county, Minnesota’s deepest, largest and most stocked lakes seem to come together. It can seem overwhelming, trying to decide where to go or where to buy real estate. Massive lakes such as Leech lake may take forever to explore. Smaller lakes may not yield good fishing or provide public access. Woman lake strikes an excellent balance, providing a great mix of fishing, water sports and fun!

Woman lake is one of the best kept fishing secrets in the area. Covering over 5,000 acres and reaching a maximum depth of 54 feet, Woman lake demonstrates excellent yields of Bluegill, Walleye and Northern Pike. A narrow channel connects the lake to Broadwater bay and Girl Lake, providing additional opportunities to discover excellent fishing along the eclectic shoreline.

It’s not just the aquatic life that makes this lake so worthy of a journey north. Abundant hunting and wildlife is available all throughout the year – from bald eagles to foxes, there are many opportunities for world-class nature viewing. Even black bear make a regular appearance around Woman lake, particularly in springtime when they awake from hibernation. Their appearance has marked an increasing interest in black bear hunting over the past few years.

Situated amongst the impressive Chippewa National Forest, Woman lake doesn’t seem particularly prone to development. Visitors will inevitably find there way to the delightful town of Longville. Longville, Minnesota acts as the perfect base of operations for visitors to explore the endless natural wonders in an around Woman lake. Situated on the shores of Girl lake, the town is home to many resorts and campgrounds with access to Woman lake.

Every Wednesday starting in early June, the town of Longville holds regular turtle races. These events mark two hours of great family fun, with contestants being allowed to use a city turtle or even bring their own (provided the shell is no larger than 5 inches!). There’s even a resort race, with racer representing every resort in the area; when staying there, visitors can represent their own resort by asking at the front desk. This fun time for the whole family lasts until late August and includes carnival food, contests and a memorable day on the shores of Girl Lake.

A perfect getaway is never about one single component. It’s the combination of many great experiences, from turtle races and cotton candy, to hiking and fishing. With so many activities, many find themselves coming back to Woman lake year after year.
